Can Thal Minors have TOO much Iron?

My doctor recently ran the usual tests on me. My Hemoglobin was 9.5, which is usual for me, and my Iron serum level was 145ng/ml. According to this testing facility, the normal range is 35-145ng/ml. So that puts me right at the upper limit. This suprised me because my diet doesn't include the usual suspects that are high in iron. I know majors have trouble with excess iron due to transfusions, but should a minor with no hx of tranfusions be concerned about a high level of iron?

Are you taking any Iron Supplements?
Do you eat red meat ( beef/mutton) if yes then cut the intake.
Rest your Doctor will decide.
take care

Re: Can Thal Minors have TOO much Iron?

I am told that those of us with Thal Intermedia absorb more iron from our diets because of the constant anemia. The body automatically tries to fix it by absorbing iron. Maybe the same can be said for a Thal Minor that is constantly anemic??? 9.5 HB isn't bad, but it is still anemic by normal standards.

Did you do those tests fasting?
It's true what Schelby said.

Indeed I'm not into dates, I'm not into destinations, but I'm into the chances! - me

I would not worry about 145 for your iron level.

Be the change you want to see in the world.
