piracetam? does it alleviate symptoms?

My wife has Thal, and I've been doing research on it. I'm taking Piracetam myself as a nootropic, but I've heard that it can help alleviate symptoms of Thalassemia. Has anyone here tried it, or any other 'racetams? Does it help? They are supposed to improve the oxygen carrying capability of the blood.

She's been using it for about a year now, and it does seem to help.
