Exclamation Insurance Is It A Big Joke Or A Word For Us

HI GUYS,

INSURANCE :- This Is A Topic Which Many Ppl In Developing Countries Or Few Developed Countries feel is a joke for us.....

since i started earning i have been thinking that i should get some way out to se that all my expenses like transfusion , desferal and all get covered . because it cost way too much to bear these things on a simple bussiness or a job.....

but i am really very sorry to say that after working so hard i find it v difficult to cover all my expenses , ofcourse my family bussiness is there but the thing which bothers my parents are dearing these expenses since my childhood and now i want to be on my own , but i am sorry to say i takes hell out of me to do that.

this is the time i feel that there should be some govt or any other support should be there . countries like usa , uk , canada etc do that but in may developing countries ppl has to suffer these kinda cost . and thats where the question comes ....

can i get any kind of insurance that will cover all my expenses ????

but the anser is no we cant get any kinda insurance i have seen and with the help of thalassemics india i have talked to many companies who do health insurance .. but they gave one straight answer and that was no. no .no.
we are still talking to those companies but they are not listening . i dont know how to react . but i am definetely very sad about this .

ppl i am touching this topic just to want to know your opinions about it.

so reply and lets come up with something.

regards

Hi, Ya its very true that none of the insurance co. is ready to insure us .I also talked to one of insurance agent to get me insured but he replied that there is a rule that does't cover the insurance policy to the one who is suffring from herriditory disorder or chronic disorder and if u get urself insured by the means of fake medical fitness certificate ,u will be in trouble when u want to claim the policy.

Dear all,
This issue was very hotly debated during the last International Symposium at Pune and it is a matter of shame that thals do not get the coverage to their expectations. There was some one from the insurance company who could not answer the questions hurled at him with facts and figures. You all should be given justice as far as insurance coverage is concerned.

Insurance is a big headache for all those who have "pre-existing conditions". I guess medical insurance in India is more for the healthy than those who really need it .

This is an open question to all, "Is there anything we thals can do collectively to kick start insurance for us in India?"

We do need to find some way out

Re: Insurance Is It A Big Joke Or A Word For Us

Hi guys and gals,
Not all of you know me, but I have reading and keeping up with the posts. I think inorder to address the issue of insurance in India, it will have to come from the govt down. I know it is next to impossible to get isurance for pre-existing or chronic conditions. The main reasons are:
a) the sum of expenses are definately going to be greater than the cost of transfusion so no company wants to sign on to surefire loss
b) the chances of health complications later in life are higher
c) A lot of our health depends on personal responsibility and most companies are not confident that it is any sort of guarentee.

However, if there is a law that states something like all patients will pay 40% of the costs and insurance company will pay 60%, it would help in cutting down costs. Is there anyone who can talk to a legislative body or person and get some ideas? I know that this will take years, but it will help the future if not you personally.

It is important to pick your battles, but never give up on anything.

rgds, Jesal

ya , we did that jesal , we talked to ICICI on this kinda deal also but still no replies ,
another praposal we said was you will give initially premium of 3 years and after 4 years cost have to be bear by comapny . they dont agree to that
including this many other praposals were also discussd but with no results .
lets just lev this topic for future and will see what happens.

Re: Insurance Is It A Big Joke Or A Word For Us

Vikas,

Maroongi mein.. I said LAW!! If there is a law like there is against Murder... then ICICI and all of them will have to do it... Warna, why are they going to bother... Anyhow, maybe you are right, but it is going to be an uphill battle regardless of when you address it. The main aim will be to show them that Thalassemia is not that much different than other chronic illnesses. May be you can start by telling them that they should only pay for blood and not desferal/kelfer/L1.. or by only paying for one or the other.... I don't know.. just my three cents...

Hope all is well there with all of you,
Jesal

Re: Insurance Is It A Big Joke Or A Word For Us

hi,

are com on jesal , u think i didn get you i think that was my mistake that i skiped the question of law , i thought being a gujju, indian you must know that how diff it is to get a law passed in india (but i think you forgot abot apna hindustan) lololol.

and you know it is easier to convince companies than govt and when we cant convince these mnc's how can we even think of concvincing govt , but we will not stop trying.

anyways your three cents are good but we have already shared it woth the companies and they still dont agree.

your 3 cents are 3 million for us , so pls donate generously.

regards

Re: Insurance Is It A Big Joke Or A Word For Us

What is the scope of Medical Insurance from work in INDIA?
I have heared through friends that some companies give their employee medical benefits. I am wondering if those wil thalassemia can benefit from such benefit plans through their employer?
I know that not everyone works and not everyone has medical benefits via work but for those who do have them.. I am trying to find out if you can claim those benefits under thalassemia?
