| iron overload
hi gud day im EDWIN 37 yr old and thalassemia minor from the Philippines, Manila my iron increase from 980 down to 920 then the latest is 1,200 my hematologist is requesting me to take medication named exjade intake once a day from Novartis Philippines, anybody tell me it is safe? or no side effiects? and it so expensive. please advice thanks.

Please get tested for the Serrum Ferritin & Liver Function test to start using Exjade, the cost factor is your affordability.

Stop eating iron rich food, and ask to your doctor for serrum ferritin test.

sorry for the delay im not taking blood transfusions, by january 2009 im taking exjade if my iron is not decreasing

i had mild thalassemia and my serum ferritin was 1,250 two months ago and by January 2009 if my internal organs are ok im taking exjade as per advice of my doctor and i ask somebody, if you are iron overload and you drink alkaline water, your iron or serum ferritin will increased? or it is bad or good?

I guess it's possible. Does your body take not more iron when you anemia?
I dont have thal, but the rare anemia called pyruvate kinase deficiency and we got a link with iron overload without having transfusions. (After you'd a splectonomy, what's the spelling?)

This actually answers some of my questions in my last post, "Iron Overload Concerns".
What I would like to know is why.... and HOW.... is it possible for us minors to get such high iron if all we're doing is eating natural iron foods??? I'm not even getting transfused like those of you who are major. This sometimes makes me have to wonder what is really happening.
