Question Mood Swings And Thals

Hi friends ,

A member requested that I ask if anyone has experienced or knows of thals experiencing sudden mood swings. The mood swings are characterized by feelings of anger and depression, its the time when you are totally fed up frm ur life, but they only last a very short period....just minutes. The person also does not feel like talking to anyone when this happens and wants to be left alone. Some days this happens more than once during the day.
The nature of this problem does not seem to fit into any pattern of chronic depression, or even any hormonal disorder. Both would result in a more constant feeling of depression for a longer period of time. These are short bursts of anger and depression that understandably trouble this member.

Does anyone have any experience with this or have any ideas what may be going on? Is this a problem familiar to thals? Is it possibly related to a medication?

ppl say that this kinda problem can be cured by meditation , many ppl are trying it and are having good results.
Most people I talked to have experienced mood swings from time to time. Depression is the most common symptom but anger was also mentioned frequently.A commonly mentioned cause of depression was thinking about the future and concern over whether one could ever have a "normal" future. This cause could just as easily apply to non-thals depressions. Many people have similar feelings without having any type of physical problems. Marriage, kids, working are all things that people worry about. Many "normal" people feel exactly the same way.and when it comes to thalassemics , ppl get more tense and have more mood swings than a non -thal.

i would like to know experiences of each and every member here..... pls

regards

Re: Mood Swings And Thals

hmm nice thread yaara (great thread mann ). but if you talking about thals, i cannot answer, however, i have got a number of friends who have some bad mood swings and some never have them...but as i said, its an area where i cannot comment.

as for me...i only have mood swings in exams...but i am abnormally happy person and i like to make people laugh because i am a joker...

and its not just thal in my opinion - it depends a lot on the amount of pressure from the social life or even professional, which one can undertake.

thanks
huma

Re: Mood Swings And Thals

Mood disorder in psychology is defined as psychological disorder in which individual experiences swings in their emotional states that are much more extreme and prolonged than is true of most people.

In mood disorder one experiences sudden flow of happiness, excited or elated
and sometimes they feel sad, blue and dejected.

While discussing mood swings in our cases the only mood comes in pictures is depression a state of high dejection, failure n sadness. And this state of depression has only one cause in our case that is psychological in nature
it says one individual feels depressed who often pocesses negative conceptions of their own traits, abilities and behaviour. As result they are highly sensitive to other's criticism.

As most of us, including me also, are more likely to notice and remember negative info. their feelngs of worthiness strengthen; and whenever go through various stresses like faliure at work or love relationship or marriage, our thinking can become distorted and self defeating in ways. And it is there with us thals becaue eeach one of us faced failures, rejections and other unwanted comments on us in our walk of life and it is but very natural to get depressed, angry and a sense of loneliness

All to control this low mood swings one should increase his/her self worth and confidence. Its his/her worth in their own eyes and for that yoga and meditation has proved to be the most successful as these are the therapies from ancient times and gives a way to feeling of enlightened by the grace of god himself as one can directly attach himself/herself into the most complete entity and can over come his/her own incomplete traits. This gives the affected person strength to stand and fight for his/her good future.

Depression is evil in your mind and meditation is an angel, way to fight with the depression.

In the end I would like to quote its just all mind game, frame it your way, and let the anger, sense of loneliness get the depression from us.

Re: Mood Swings And Thals

My brother would be a more likely candidate to reply to this post. He is also a thal minor and chronically depressed but my mother who is not a thal is bipolar. My dad who is a thal minor suffers from occasional depression but was also recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism which contributes to the depression.

From a physiological perspective, low energy and low blood pressure can definitely contribute to depression. In Greece, doctors tend to prescribe Effortil for low blood pressure along with mild anti-depressants. My dad has reported they helped him. My mother is another story. Bipolar-like mood swings are very much in line with thal since our physiology is so volatile. Remember what you are doing to your body on a daily basis: chelation and transfusions are almost opposite to each other and they contribute to mood swings...As for thal minors, we have plenty of things to be depressed about.

And if you are a woman, forget about it...I want to cry at least three days of the month but if you are on the pill you can at least mark the days on the calendar. The bottom line is first to take care of your body and that will contribute to your sense of self. When you have maxed what you can do for your body, you have to accept what you have and make the best of it. None of us are on this planet for any predictable amount of time.

I learned one thing from losing one of my dearest friends: eternity lasts for as long as people who knew you have love for you in their heart. That is enough for me. When I am depressed, I remember how gracefully John slipped away from his suffering (he hummed when he was in pain) and I smile because my love for him lives in my heart. Focus on a special moment in life, a goal, a person and go with it. Your body is only a vessel. Your soul will stay in it only as long as it is alive and warm. It is amazing how much my friend's body looked nothing like him after it went cold. It was no longer him and I knew then that he was truly gone and all I had left of him was in my heart.

Even when stress at work is so bad that I find myself holding my breath, I try to remember what is really important. I sound like a hippie, but what is in your heart is all you have. Everything else is gravy: sometimes you want it, sometimes you don't and sometimes you get served way more than you want...

its great that you are a very relaxed person but there are lots of ppl out there who is suffering from this problem . and i am soory to call this as a problem but surely this is. as i know few person who have terrible mood swings it dosent mean that they are sick or something but what i feel that love and affection is the way to treat this problem . in a moment you shout at someone for nothinga dn other moment you realize that you were wrong and correct that . well i think i have gone tto far to explain thsi but its my personal experience as i have to deal with my friends who give really hard time to me when they have thier mood swings.
and someone was telling me other day that when someone is taking growth harmones it happens very frequently at that time.
is it so , pls anyone who is taking growth harmone pls tell us thier experience.
